Why should you install an alarm system in your house?

Which home security alarm should you choose?

Before choosing your smart alarm system, several essential criteria must be taken into account:

  1. Your needs depending on your type of housing and lifestyle
  2. Your expected level of security and use of the alarm system
  3. The need of a back-up battery or not
  4. Your internet connection
  5. The choice of the alarm system
  6. The way you want to control it
  7. The need for surveillance cameras
  8. The installation

1. What are your needs in terms of security ?

The criteria to take into account when choosing your Somfy security system.

Your type of home

The alarm you need to set up will be different, depending on whether you live in an apartment or a house. Indeed, some alarm components will differ depending on the space and the number of accesses there are to your home.

  • If you have a house, you will have to protect the exterior access via your garden, your terrace or your garage.
  • If you live in an apartment that is on the ground floor or on first floor, threats can also come from outside. If your accommodation is on the upper floors, you should mainly be concerned with the main entrance.

Your choice will also depend on whether it is your primary accommodation or your second home.

The number of detectors and cameras will thus be different to guarantee maximum security depending on your type of accommodation and its layout.

The number of rooms to protect

Depending on the layout of your home and the location of the rooms, you may not want to protect them all in the same way.

Clearly define the main rooms you want to protect: it makes sense to protect an easily accessible room on the ground floor rather than a room with a small window on the first floor.

It will thus define the number of sensors to set up.

The number of persons using the system

Then, define the number of people who will need to activate/deactivate your alarm: members of the household, family members, a neighbour...This will define number of key fobs (badges) needed.

You also have the possibility to choose several keypads. This is useful if you have several entrances and thus need to activate/deactivate the alarm from several places in the house.

Local regulations

Depending on where you live, your town hall or government may have issued rules concerning the volume or the maximum duration permitted for your outdoor sirens. These measures aim to protect your neighborhood from possible noise pollution. You will then have to choose the alarm system that corresponds to these regulations.

Be sure to comply with these obligations otherwise you risk prosecution for the use of non-compliant equipment and disturbing public peace.

Do you have pets?

If you want to install an alarm to secure your home, it is important to tailor your alarm to the presence of your cat or dog. Indeed, your alarm may unexpectedly react if you do not adjust the sensitivity of your motion and opening detectors for your pet.

Our alarm systems are compatible with pets. Selection will be made depending of their weight (> or < 25 kg)

2. What is your expected level of security and use of the alarm system?

To obtain an efficient installation, you need to define your expectations. This essential step allows you to target the different items that will complete your wireless alarm: presence and opening detectors, motion detectors, camera, etc.

Level of protection

Would you like a high level of security or not? Do you need to track the access of your doors and windows? Remote monitoring or deterrence of any intrusion attempt?
Our Somfy smart security systems are scalable. You can start by installing a basic alarm that you can complement according to your needs and desires over time.

The functionality of each alarm plays its role in offering optimal security and peace of mind. Some features may really be essentials, such as the operation of the home alarm in the event of a power and internet failure, or professional remote monitoring.

Are you planning a long trip? Somfy also offers a professional remote monitoring service with no obligation that you can activate and deactivate whenever you want. If an intrusion is detected, the remote monitoring centre receives an alert just like you.
In the event of a proven intrusion, as evidenced by the cameras, the remote surveillance centre contacts you and quickly informs the police for a rapid intervention.

Finally, in the event of damage, a security guard is sent to ensure security while the necessary repairs are carried out.

T

Security sensors

Different sensors will help you detect intrusions and domestic incidents:

  • To stop intruders before they can enter, choose IntelliTAG® vibration and opening detectors. These sensors detect break-in attempts, trigger indoor or outdoor sirens and notify you by SMS. Know that with Home Keeper alarm system, the outdoor motion sensors will play the same role by deterring intruders before they enter.
  • Motion detectors and infrared sensors will detect individuals inside your home and alert you. You can adjust their sensitivity if you live with pets.
  • Finally, to detect domestic incidents such as fires, it is now mandatory to install a smoke detector in your home.

In order to deter would-be burglars, indoor and outdoor sirens will sound. You can also simulate your presence and create scenarios by connecting your various devices to our home automation box TaHoma® switch.
