  • What is the difference between a conservatory/veranda and a sunroom? (0) 26.02.2021

A conservatory or veranda is a glass covering of a (part of your) terrace and is usually attached to your house as a light weight building construction. A conservatory is made of wood or aluminum with the roof and side walls made of safe and reinforced glass. The whole gives a completely closed construction with an opening inside and a door or sliding door to the outside. In fact, the conservatory is an interior space, but is considered to be a separate room, a kind of extension of your home on the terrace.

A sunroom has many similarities with a conservatory, it is also placed on the house and counts as extra space, but the roof is provided with, for example, roof tiles or other materials.

  • How to select the right motorised system for your veranda? (1) 12.10.2018

Somfy recommends you install roller blinds and curtains in your veranda. Outside, external Venetian blinds, roller shutters and roof blinds will provide you with a comfortable and elegant veranda. Our recommended equipment:
    - Roller shutters. They insulate picture windows and hinder break-in attempts. For maximum comfort, Somfy recommends you equip your shutters with the quiet S&SO RS100 motorised system.
External Venetian blinds. With their adjustable slats, external Venetian blinds can change angle depending on the sun’s intensity and regulate the natural light coming in. We recommend you select the J4 io Protect motorised system for these sun stoppers.
Interior blinds. Interior blinds protect you from sunlight and maintain your privacy. For this type of equipment, we recommend you use the Sonesse Ultra motorised system.
    - Roof screens. The motorised system allows you to control your hard-to-reach roof screen panels. With Somfy solutions, protect yourself from the sun with the greatest of ease!

  • Verandas checklist (0) 12.10.2018

The points to check before selecting a motorised system:
    1. Is the frame strong enough to withstand the installation of a motorised system?
    2. Is the canvas in good enough shape to take a motorised system and move smoothly? We recommend you avoid using a motorised system with worn fabrics.
    3. What size are the windows? The motor will be selected based on their size.
